More and more people nowadays prefer recording videos on smartphones – as opposed to digital cameras or camcorders. Not only is it more convenient, but nowadays smartphones tend to have impressive video cameras that make them a decent alternative.
That being said although smartphones have good cameras that is no guarantee that your video is going to turn out perfect. Frankly speaking the quality of the camera is only one factor involved in recording videos, which is why it helps to know how to capture better videos using smartphones:
- Keep the camera steady
If your smartphone shakes or moves it can cause the footage to appear blurry. To keep the camera steady try to get into the habit of holding your smartphone with both hands and keeping your elbows close to your body. Assuming you do need to pan the camera, do so by rotating your entire body and not moving your arms. Should you still encounter issues – consider using a tripod or camera holder.
- Make sure the lighting is good
It is important that there is sufficient lighting when you’re trying to record any scene otherwise the video could look shadowy or grainy. At the same time you should avoid pointing your camera directly at a light source, as it will wash out the rest of the scene or cause a lens flare. If your phone allows you to control the white balance or back-lighting then that may help in some cases.
- Get closer instead of using digital zoom
Although most smartphones allow for digital zoom as a rule of thumb it is best to avoid using it as the quality of your video will be affected. Instead you should try to position the camera as close as you can physically.
No matter how careful you are when recording your video however it is a safe bet that you will still want to be able to edit it after the fact. For iPhone video (or iOS in general) you can do so easily using a neat little app known as Clip&Go.
Essentially Clip&Go is a simple app that places a variety of editing features at your fingertips. Using it you will be able to merge videos together, trim out any parts of the video that you don’t need, add background music, and then save it in square, portrait or landscape mode.
With these features you should be able to quite easily take the videos that you record on your smartphone and tailor them into a nice video worth sharing with your friends or on social media. If you want to download the app just head over to App Store and be sure to try out its features. Have you used any app simillar Clip&Go? Share your experience with us 🙂
